Jonah cried out in the belly of the whale – “Salvation is of the Lord.” Indeed it is! No church can save you! No water in the baptistry can wash your sins away! No sacraments can save your soul! In brief, if you have a Bible, take a quick look at Romans chapter 10 and you will see the Biblical plan of salvation:
| 1. | Someone must be sent – Rom. 10:15a Christians have been sent into the world as a witness of God’s salvation plan. |
| 2. | Someone must preach – Rom. 10:14d This does not mean that you have to be preacher but rather that as a Christian, we must share the Gospel of Jesus Christ which involves His death, the burial, and resurrection. That is what is called the “Good News.” |
| 3. | Someone must hear – Rom.10:14c That would be those who are lost in sin. If you are reading this and are lost, that would be YOU! |
| 4. | Someone must believe – Rom.10:14b What is it that you must believe? |
- That you are a sinner guilty before a Holy God – Romans 3:23
- That you must pay for the sins you have committed – Romans 6:23a
- That in spite of being a guilty, Hell-bound sinner, God LOVES you and sent His son, Jesus, to pay the debt of sin you owe and to suffer for you – Romans 5:6,8.
- That you must repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ – Luke 13:3,5; Acts 20:21; Acts 16:31; John 3:16.
|
| 5. | Someone must call – Rom.10:13,14a Having believed with your heart, then we call upon the name of the Lord and ask him to save us. Calling upon the Lord is what we call prayer. You can call without believing (you are still lost, however), but, you cannot truly believe without calling. When you know and understand that you are guilty and headed for Hell and that Jesus died for you, you turn from running from God – repent – and trust Christ as your Saviour calling upon Him. |
When these 5 Biblical steps are carried out, someone, perhaps, YOU, are saved. Remember, it is not the prayer that saves you but it is Jesus that saves you. Here is a simple prayer you might pray or you can pray from your heart in your own words:
Dear Lord, I confess that I am a sinner in your sight. I have violated your commands and laws. I am guilty before you. I have heard that you love me and sent Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. I believe He did that just for me and that He arose and is alive today. Right now, from my heart I turn from my sin and believing on Jesus Christ and Him alone ask you to save me from my sin. (Once you have believed with your heart and confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord – Rom.10:9,10, according to God’s Word, you are saved.) Thank you, Father, for saving my soul and forgiving my sin. In Jesus name, amen!
If you have truly believed and asked the Lord to save you, look at Rom.10:11 – Are you ashamed of what just happened? You are NOT if you truly have been saved.
